About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Learning Support Assistant to support learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, autism, and medical needs.
This role combines educational support with personal care responsibilities, ensuring learners can access their education safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting independence, wellbeing, and positive learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Support learners in classroom, vocational, and enrichment activities.
- Provide personal care support, including toileting, continence care, changing, and personal hygiene.
- Assist learners with eating, drinking, and feeding programmes where required.
- Support students with mobility needs using safe manual handling techniques and specialist equipment.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and medical protocols.
- Support learners with communication and social interaction needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and participation in all aspects of college life.
- Record and report any safeguarding, welfare, or health concerns.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families.
- Experience supporting individuals with SEND, learning disabilities, or care needs.
- Comfortable providing personal and intimate care with dignity and respect.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, caring, and reliable approach.
- Understanding of safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, SEND, Education, or a related field.
- Manual Handling training.
- Experience supporting learners with complex needs and physical disabilities.
- Knowledge of autism, PMLD, or challenging behaviour support.
- Medication administration and PEG feeding training (or willingness to undertake training).
