An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated midwife to join our maternity service as Lead Midwife for Diabetes in Pregnancy. This Band 7 role will provide specialist midwifery leadership across the diabetes in pregnancy pathway, supporting safe, personalised and evidence-based care for women and birthing people with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes.
Working across both the Scarborough and York sites, you will be a visible and credible clinical leader within maternity services. You will work closely with diabetes specialist midwives, obstetricians, physicians, diabetes specialist nurses, dietitians and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to coordinate care, reduce variation in practice and support improved outcomes and experience for women, babies and families.
The post holder will provide expert clinical advice, leadership and support for the delivery of high-quality diabetes in pregnancy care. You will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of care pathways, guidelines and service improvements, ensuring practice remains aligned with national guidance, professional standards and local governance requirements.
You will support staff education, clinical supervision, audit, incident learning and quality improvement activity, acting as a specialist resource for maternity colleagues and wider multidisciplinary partners. The role requires autonomous practice, sound clinical judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to influence change across services.
We are looking for a registered midwife with significant post-registration experience, including experience at Band 6 level, who is passionate about improving care for women and birthing people affected by diabetes in pregnancy. You will bring specialist knowledge, compassionate leadership and a clear commitment to personalised care, informed choice, equity and continuous improvement. You will be organised, approachable and able to work effectively across professional and organisational boundaries.
You will be confident supporting colleagues, communicating complex information sensitively and using evidence, data and feedback to strengthen the quality and safety of the diabetes in pregnancy pathway.
Please seek approval from your current line manager if you are applying for this on a secondment basis.
