Mearns Academy is currently seeking a dynamic School librarian. The successful candidate will be required to work with young people and school staff and manage and promote the library service within school.

The successful candidate will be responsible for procuring and managing resources, developing a reading programme, supporting curriculum learning, developing partnerships in the school community and promoting literacy.

The postholder will be expected to:

Support

literacy across the school, working with staff and pupils to promote reading for enjoyment and attainment

Play a key role in our journey towards becoming a

reading school, including supporting reading initiatives and events

Work collaboratively with

faculties across the school to support curricular learning and research skills

Be involved

in classes, supporting lessons or delivering short inputs or activities

alongside the class teacher, for example introducing texts, research skills or themed resources

Engage directly with pupils through

presentations or workshops on agreed topics linked to learning, reading or information skills

Support

lunchtime activities in the library (for example quizzes, reading groups or small pupil groups), with the understanding that their

lunch break would be taken at an alternative point in the day

Working hours to be discussed with Senior Leadership Team and preferred candidate upon interview.

This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
