DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a medium‑sized general hospital, we provide a full range of general medical and surgical services, including a busy Emergency Department, Maternity, and Paediatrics. As the population of our city and surrounding areas continues to grow rapidly, we are expanding and enhancing our facilities to meet rising demand and improve access to care for all our communities.
We are also proud to offer a growing portfolio of specialist services. In January 2025 we opened our state‑of‑the‑art Radiotherapy Centre, bringing advanced cancer treatment closer to home. Our services also include neonatology, specialist surgical care, and a wide range of diagnostics, supported by the new Community Diagnostic Centre at Whitehouse Health Centre. We have just opened the Oak Wards - a new ward block featuring two 24‑bed wards. Further investment is underway, including the recently approved Women and Children’s Centre, set to open by 2030.
The successful candidate will be responsible to and work under the supervision of the ENT Consultants and Middle Grade Doctors. They will be expected to participate in most of the day‑to‑day activities of the department in cooperation with the rest of the surgical staffing. It will be expected that he/she will conduct daily ward rounds, care for in‑patients, participate in the on‑call rota, attend A&E and ENT emergency clinics, attend routine and emergency surgical operating lists and carry out administration related to these activities.
He/she will take part in the on‑call rota at Senior House Officer Level (1:6 ENT only for weekday/weekend day shifts, ~ 1:10 ENT/General Surgery cross‑cover for night shifts). The successful candidate is expected to participate in all the other ongoing activities of the department including audit, research projects and to attend various departmental meetings and teaching sessions (MDTs, Audit meetings, M&M, ward and formal teaching).
Within the hours contracted, the successful candidate is expected to be flexible in the exact hours worked each day. It is also expected that the LAS will ensure that the discharge letters are completed in a timely fashion and accurate.
