I am a young, friendly woman looking for a female live-in personal assistant to work 1 week out of every 4 weeks - urgently required. I have cerebral palsy and epilepsy and am physically unable to carry out most tasks but am passionate about my rights to live my life the way I choose and want full control over my independence. Sometimes I use an app called Go Talk when I struggle to talk. Assistance is required with all aspects of my daily life, including personal care, administration, some domestic tasks such as cooking and cleaning, and accompanying me to medical appointments and social activities. I also attend church on Sundays, so you would be required to accompany me, but you will not be expected to participate in the service - just to be on hand when assistance is required. I enjoy swimming also, so someone who would do that with me would be great!

I need someone with good IT skills, who can use programs such as Word and Excel to help me with my household and employer paperwork. I have a busy social life and am looking for a friendly, patient, outgoing carer who can support me to maintain my independence, who can learn to recognise when I need help and be responsive to my needs. I have two PAs who work three weeks out of four. I would like another PA to work the remaining one week out of four. Christmas Day, New Years Day and Bank Holidays will be required if during the week. I am also looking for someone who has a full UK driving license as you will need to drive my WAV (manual) and be over the age of 21 for insurance purposes. Each day you will have a 2 hour unpaid break which is given in the morning (excluding handover days).

Duties include:

  • Medication prompting/administering
  • Personal grooming
  • Eating and drinking assistance
  • Moving and handling
  • Clinical tasks
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Administration
  • Housekeeping
  • Shopping
  • Cooking
  • Transportation
  • Companionship
  • Gardening
  • Dressing / undressing
  • Bathroom assistance

You will need to support me with chest physiotherapy exercises and other physiotherapy daily; training will be provided. Support using the Aerobika Breathing Aid - training will be provided - I am sometimes unable to clear my lungs of phlegm which I find alarming, and this can change my tone of voice at these times. To me it comes across as if I am speaking normally so no offence intended. Catheter care - I have a suprapubic catheter. Training will be provided on this. Transportation to and from college plus assistance while there, twice weekly. Other relevant duties as required, including emptying litter tray and feeding the cats.

Candidate qualities:

  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

  • Comfortable with cats

Must have or be willing to have:

  • Catheter training
  • Nebuliser training
  • Chest Physio training

Additional requirements:

  • Vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission

Notes: All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required. If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives.
