Living wage rate - £14.59 per hr, wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears by a payroll service.
5.6 weeks paid Annual leave pro rata for contracted staff.
Days of work / times required: 5 days over 7, will include weekends.
Job Purpose: To support a young man who lives in his own home with his dad. The support will be with personal care, moving and handling, keeping the house clean, cooking, washing, ironing etc., as well as getting him out and about. Some of the support will be driving the young man out and about, as well as travelling on the train.
Employer: You will be employed by the personal employer, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
Probationary period:
- There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post.
- Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure scheme and supply 2 up to date reference contacts prior to appointment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Moving and handling using both a tracking and manual hoist.
- Driving a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
- Providing full support with all aspects of personal care.
- Supporting with household management – shopping, cooking, cleaning etc.
You will be responsible for supporting the person to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by him and his dad. You will be assisting with personal care tasks as directed by the young man and his dad. Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the employer about the particular activities he wants to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support his choices. He loves politics and going to the Edinburgh Fringe. You may be required to work in the evening, as well as help cover other staff A/L. You will be required to work day shift / back shift and some weekends on a rota system. You will be required to drive the employer's car at times and you should be willing and able to do this with confidence and support him travelling to various locations.
Training: Moving and assisting certificate required, full clean driving licence, previous experience supporting disabled people.
Qualifications: Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.

- Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.

Personal Qualities: The young man has a wide range of interests which are in a table at the end of this person spec. He is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests. He is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener. The person should be good at connecting into community activities and making contacts/networks. Wide experience of community activities.
Other:
- You must have a full clean UK driving licence.
- You must be physically fit.
- You must have a good sense of humour, be flexible and reliable.
- Must have previous experience of using a tracking / mobile hoist.
