Edinburgh | £35,000 - £45,000 + Private Healthcare + Hybrid Working + Excellent Career Development

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join an established Building Services Design Consultancy as part of the launch of its new Edinburgh operation. With a healthy portfolio of live projects and a substantial pipeline of secured work across Scotland and the North of England, this is a rare chance to join a business at the beginning of an exciting growth journey while benefiting from the security of an already established consultancy.

Unlike many junior engineering roles where progression can be restricted by large team structures, this opportunity offers the chance to become one of the founding members of a growing Edinburgh office. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, gain exposure to key projects and clients from an early stage, and have the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility much sooner than would typically be expected elsewhere. For an ambitious engineer looking to accelerate their career, this represents a genuine opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help shape the future success of a growing Scottish business.

Your New Company

An established Building Services Design Consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering innovative Mechanical, Electrical and Environmental Engineering solutions across the UK and Ireland. The company provides MEP design, BIM coordination and sustainable engineering services across a broad range of sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, residential, industrial and public sector developments. Due to continued project wins and a growing order book, the Edinburgh team is expanding to support an increasing volume of work across Scotland and the North of England.

Your New Role

As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you'll work within an experienced multidisciplinary design team, supporting the delivery of mechanical building services projects from concept stage through to completion. Beyond the technical aspects of the role, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the Edinburgh office and play a visible role within a developing team. As one of the early hires in the business, you'll be given the chance to take ownership of responsibilities and develop your professional profile far earlier than is often available within larger consultancies. The role offers a mix of office-based, home-working and site visits, providing excellent exposure to all stages of the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the design of mechanical building services systems
  • Supporting the production of HVAC and public health engineering designs
  • Preparing calculations, technical reports, specifications and schedules
  • Producing and reviewing design drawings using industry-standard software
  • Assisting with site visits, surveys and project inspections
  • Working closely with Electrical Engineers, Architects and Project Teams
  • Supporting energy-efficient and sustainable building services designs
  • Learning and developing knowledge of UK Building Regulations and industry standards
  • Contributing to project delivery across a variety of sectors and project values

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous consultancy experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong interest in Building Services and Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, IES or similar design software would be beneficial
  • Full UK driving licence is advantageous

What You'll Get In Return

  • Competitive salary of £35,000 - £45,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working with a mix of home, office and site-based working
  • Opportunity to join at the launch of a brand-new Edinburgh office
  • Be part of a small, growing team with significant expansion plans
  • Gain exposure to senior management and decision-makers from day one
  • Opportunity to take on responsibility earlier than would typically be available in larger consultancies
  • Work on established projects with a substantial pipeline of future work already secured
  • Exposure to projects across Scotland and the North of England
  • Structured mentoring and ongoing technical development
  • Clear progression pathway towards Intermediate and Senior Engineer level
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
