University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for motivated, enthusiastic doctors to join their Trust on fixed term 12 month contracts. A busy, progressive, forward thinking Trust, we have been successfully recruiting to these posts for 9 years and would like you to join our consultants and teams working in General and Acute Medicine. Posts are available at Royal Derby Hospital.

Please note: We typically receive a high volume of applications for locally employed doctor posts and we will therefore only shortlist candidates who meet the Essential criteria. Please do not apply if you do not meet this criteria as this leads to significant clinician time reviewing applications from applicants who will not be shortlisted.

In conjunction with the wider medical team, your main duty will be day to day management of medical in-patients. We would also like to offer you opportunities to increase your out-patient experience, build upon the skills you already have, learn new procedures and work in our friendly departments. There are opportunities to teach, perform Quality Improvement Projects and be part of our innovative teams. You will receive educational and clinical supervision, Β£500 study leave budget (pro rata) and 5 days study leave (pro rata), access to an Eportfolio and be encouraged to join the weekly teaching programmes. Subject to individual requirements, there may be scope to attend ALS or IMPACT courses and we will facilitate your annual appraisal.

As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together. Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.

In return we will offer:

  • Development opportunities, including both professional and leadership development
  • On-going support through every step of the way from recruitment to when you join our team and beyond.
  • A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car schemes.

Key Facts about our Trust:

  • We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England – an average of 2077 per week.
  • An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day – 3rd largest in the country.
  • Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily.
  • Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres.
  • We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.
  • We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day.

The post holder will rotate through 2 attachments of 6 month duration either 6 months in Acute Medicine and 6 months in General Medicine, or both rotations in either General or Acute Medicine. For General Medicine, the out-of-hours commitment includes a long day (Mon-Fri) every 3 weeks. In addition, there will be 1 in 4 weekend ward cover from 0800-1700 or 1200-2030 only with compensatory rest. If rotating in Acute Medicine, the rota will typically involve a week of nights and late shifts, along with the usual weekday shifts. Post holders will also be expected to help the department in times of short cover as needed for patient safety.

Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice on application is essential. Although not formal training posts and these are not accredited by Health Education East Midlands, we believe we can offer you good training in a busy, large hospital that has the benefits of a district general and the reputation of a teaching hospital. The posts are offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months only, until 3rd August 2027. Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice at time of application is essential. Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have excellent skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable highly effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.

Please be aware that due to the high volume of applications received for these posts, we reserve the right to close this advert earlier than the given closing date. Please ensure that you only apply if you meet the Essential criteria for the post. As this is a re-advert from our previous F3 Medicine vacancy, previous applicants need not apply.
