To be responsible for the overall management of the clinical area, Richmond ward and the professional development of staff within Planned Cared Division.

The Ward Manager will provide advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients.

The Ward Manager will be expected to maintain high standards of care and be accountable for auditing those standards.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining a suitable and safe environment for patients and staff.

On occasions, the post holder will deputise for the Matron in their absence.

The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and professional development for the nursing and support workers within the clinical area.

They will provide professional advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients.

The post holder will also provide nursing leadership for implementation and evaluation of all education, training and development of staff.

They will develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the clinical area in conjunction with the specialist MDT teams.

They will be responsible for the interpretation of and maintaining compliance with Trust policies.

The post holder will aim to ensure that all patients are provided with a safe and high quality standard of care.

They will be aware of the Care Quality Commission and work with the multidisciplinary team ensuring that they are maintained.

  • Toberesponsiblefor theprovisionofnursingcareontheward24houraday.
  • Recruitandretainaworkforcequalifiedtomeettheneedsofthepatientsinthatarea. Thismayincludenursing staff, support workers, administrative staff, and housekeeping staff.
  • Managewardstaffingdaytodaytoensureeffectiveuseofresources. Thisincludesresponsibilityfortheduty rotas, annual and study leave, bank and agency usage.
  • Ensurethatallstaffintheareaundergoannualperformance developmentreviewsandhaveeducationalneeds of the area.
  • Identifyandinvestigateanyissuesofconduct, disciplineandperformancewithinyourteam, inaccordancewith trust policies and procedures, in liaison with the Matron.
  • Maintaining the area budget (pay and non-pay) within the agreed budget. Report and investigate anydeviation from this position (both deficits and surpluses). Also to deliver
  • Maintain a safe and acceptable environment for patients, visitors, students and staff, reporting and taking appropriate action on anyhazards, incidents, faultyequipment or inadequate standards of cleaning.

Coordinate the reporting of all such incidents for the area in liaison with the Divisional Risk Manager and Matron.

  • Collect data and provide essential information in a timely and accurate manner as requested by the directorate and trust management teams.

This could include dependency studies, manpower and a variety of audits.

  • To ensure safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and in liaison with the pharmacy team latest versions.

Disseminate any changes in policy and procedures in a timely manner.

  • To participate in meetings and project work as identified and delegated by the Matron, Service Managers and Divisional Nurse.
