This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who have completed, or are nearing completion of, Internal Medicine Training (IMT). The role is ideally suited to doctors seeking to gain the relevant clinical experience required to apply for Higher Specialty Training (ST3+) in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology in the coming years. Applications are also encouraged from those with relevant, employed clinical fellow or training doctor experience.
The clinical infection service provided at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust provides clinical liaison to onsite services including a combined medical and surgical ICU/ HDU, a large women’s and children’s department and acute medical and surgical services including an ambulatory care unit providing outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy.
The microbiology laboratory diagnostic services are provided through a pathology network. North West London Pathology (NWLP) provides diagnostic services to patients within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (Hammersmith, Charing Cross, St. Mary’s, Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospitals and Western Eye Hospital), Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust, Hillingdon Hospital Trust and associated General Practices covering a population of approximately 2.5 million people. It is currently based in a centralised laboratory at Charing Cross Hospital and is fully ISO accredited.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the microbiology service with consultant supervision. They will work in close liaison with IPC team and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacy team. There will opportunity to participate in consultant led antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds and attendance at MDTs. The postholder would be expected to join the microbiology out of hours rota covering both sites at a frequency of 1 in 6.
