We are looking for ahighly motivated and dynamic Band 5 Registered Nurseto join our Main Theatre Recovery team, providing care to bothadult and paediatric patients.

The post holder will be responsible for theassessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of high‑quality, evidence‑based post‑operative care, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the recovery phase.

This includes monitoring physiological parameters, airway management, pain management and recognising and responding to potential complications.

You will workcollaboratively and cooperatively with the multidisciplinary theatre team, including anaesthetists, surgeons, scrub nurses, anaesthetic practitioners, and HCA's , to support safe and effective patient pathways.

The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient‑centred care in line with Trust values and professional standards.

This post offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills inperi‑operative and recovery nursing, including exposure topaediatric care, within a supportive NHS theatre environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • The post holder will work under the supervision of the Theatre/Recovery Co-Ordinator and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of patient care and staff development, as part of the theatre team.
  • The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise unqualified and adaptation staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
  • To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified within your level of competency.
  • To provide high quality, safe, effective, individualised care to patients and support to their relatives.
  • To take responsibility for managing and co-ordinating an assigned area of the department in the absence of more senior staff.
  • To work within multi-disciplinary team whilst providing continuity of care to all the patients admitted and discharged within the department.
  • To participate in the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff as required.
  • To ensure that all activities are carried out within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policies and guidelines.

  • Clinical Responsibilities
  • To provide a high standard of evidence-based care to a designated group of patients.
  • To be responsible for the management of an assigned group of patients.
  • To always adhere to NMC Code of Professional Conduct and standards of Registration.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times. (see Trust’s Data Protection and Confidentiality Policy)
  • To involve families and carers in the planning and provision of care where appropriate.
  • To communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the relevant information regarding the patient’s needs/condition are communicated to them, and that any instructions from them regarding the patient’s care/condition are acted upon.
  • To have regard and respect for patient’s cultural, religious beliefs, privacy, dignity, gender and sexuality (see Trust’s Policy on Equality and Diversity)
  • To rotate in all Recovery area as required (i. e. Adult/Main Theatre, Paediatric, Burns, MRI and TC)
  • To participate in activities such as benchmarking and audit to ensure that the service and patient care are monitored, evaluated and improvements made.
  • To report any/all clinical incidents using the DATIX online reporting system and participate in the investigation of incidents as required.
  • To maintain standards of documentation including paper and computer records such as CERNER and in accordance with the Trust and NMC Standard for Records and Record Keeping.
  • To ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times, including patient handovers.
  • To complete all required trainings essential for the role which includes ILS, PILS, IV Medication and Administration Training, Pain Management and Mandatory Training/E-learning modules within the anniversary of start date
  • In partnership with other professionals and disciplines to develop individual programmes which provide measurable outcomes of patient care.

The process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with Trust policies.
