Acorn by Synergie is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer or Mechanical Technician to join an established engineering team supporting fixed plant and processing equipment in Newton Abbot. This is a hands-on opportunity for a mechanically minded engineer with experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), breakdown response and mechanical fault-finding. Key Duties

  • Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across fixed industrial plant and processing equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to maintain equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Maintain and repair mills, conveyors, fans, filters and packaging systems.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning and modifications.
  • Respond to mechanical breakdowns and restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.
  • Support planned shutdowns and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Order and manage mechanical spare parts as required.
  • Record completed maintenance work accurately.
  • Support root-cause investigations to identify and prevent recurring equipment faults.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and housekeeping.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider engineering, production and maintenance teams.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Technician or Mechanical Engineer within an industrial, manufacturing or processing environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering apprenticeship.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and mechanical breakdown repairs.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience maintaining fixed industrial plant and mechanical processing equipment.
  • Good understanding of health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Experience with packaging equipment.
  • Experience operating or maintaining mobile plant or access equipment.
  • Welding experience.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Experience within manufacturing, quarrying, mining, aggregates, chemical, food production or other process environments would be highly relevant.
