As a Warehouse Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting our retail operation by receiving, sorting and preparing donated stock for distribution across our shops. You'll help coordinate deliveries and collections, ensure stock is stored safely and efficiently, and support the day-to‑day running of the distribution centre.

Working closely with volunteers, retail teams and customers, you'll provide guidance and supervision while helping maintain high standards of health and safety, security and stock compliance. This is a hands‑on, physically active role that requires strong organisational skills, excellent communication and a commitment to supporting the work of Southern Hospice Group. You'll also provide operational support in the absence of the Warehouse Operations Manager when required.

You’ll be

We're looking for someone who is organised, hands‑on and passionate about delivering great customer service. You'll bring experience from a retail, charity retail, warehouse or service environment, along with the confidence to supervise and support volunteers.

You'll be an excellent communicator who can build positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, donors and customers, while remaining calm and professional when priorities change. You'll have strong organisational skills, good attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple tasks effectively.

We're particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Have retail, stock handling or customer service experience, with previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Enjoy working with and supporting volunteers in a team environment
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Are proactive, reliable and able to work independently using their own initiative
  • Have a good understanding of health and safety practices and safe manual handling
  • Are comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel

Knowledge of charity retail, collectables and antiques, local geographical areas, and Trading Standards requirements would be an advantage.
