North Somerset Environment Company Ltd. (NSEC) works in partnership with North Somerset Council and delivers the following services:
- Maintaining 1,100km of North Somerset highways including surface repairs, winter maintenance, gully management, drainage and kerbing repairs, signage and linemarking, and 24/7 emergency response services.
- HGV Driver and mobile plant training, vehicle servicing and maintenance, event cleaning and other environmental and highway maintenance specialisms to commercial businesses.

We are currently seeking an experienced Highway/Construction operative to join our highways division located at Sandford. You will be a part of a 2/3-person team to carry out a range of services including kerbing, hot & cold lay patching, erecting & dismantling fencing and signage. Also, to become a member of the Winter Maintenance on call team for the winter season.
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and on schedule, reporting any issues to the supervisor or chargehand.
- Being available for emergency and winter standby as required by the business.
- Traveling to various locations across the county to perform tarmac work, white works, gully repairs, and other duties as needed.
- Operating a range of plant and equipment.
- Conducting daily risk assessments, pre-site inspections, and vehicle checks.
- Installing and maintaining signage, lighting, and safety barriers.
- Taking responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
- Working flexible shifts, including both day and night shifts.
- Having the opportunity to upskill and train as a professional driver through our in-house Driver Training Academy.
The ideal candidate will have:
- To hold a CSCS card
- To hold a current UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
- To have experience in highways/construction industry
- Willing to take on additional training
- Flexible working approach
- IT literate (using a tablet)
