Based at The Royal London Children’s Hospital, part of the job plan for this role will be delivering highly specialist acute care for complex communication and swallowing difficulties arising from trauma, acquired and progressive neurological conditions and acute and chronic respiratory conditions on the paediatric wards.

The role will also involve working with the PCCU MDT to develop environmental support for patients with complex communication needs. Knowledge and experience of different AAC systems is essential.

Applicants should be an autonomous dysphagia practitioner (including infants) with evidenced knowledge and experience in acquired brain injury, developmental speech and language therapy and complex learning needs. Knowledge of complex airway management, ventilation and tracheostomy is desirable but training and support can be provided. Flexible working opportunities can be discussed.

Working within the Acute Children’s Therapies and Play service, the post holder will work as an integrated member of the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service based at The Royal London Children’s Hospital. They will deliver highly specialist and dedicated intervention to children and infants (0-16 years) admitted to the Paediatric wards including the 10 bedded Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) with complex feeding and swallowing difficulties, acquired and developmental communication disorders arising from a wide range of acute etiologies including trauma, respiratory and neurological conditions.
