Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are looking to appoint a Higher Level Pharmacy Technician in Dispensary and Medicines Optimisation (previously medicines management technician - MMT) based at Wycombe Hospital.

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician who would like to develop their clinical skills on the wards and their leadership skills by assisting in the day to day running of the dispensary to achieve their full potential working in a busy hospital setting.

The person appointed will support the Team Leader for Dispensary Services and the Senior Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation Technician in the implementation of agreed strategy and provide safe and effective care to patients and service users.

Technicians interested in this position are required to bring with them motivation, an enthusiasm to promote new ideas, a determination to succeed in a challenging environment, the ability to remain calm under pressure and a commitment to future developments in pharmacy services.

The post holder will

  • Participate in the dispensing of medicines at ward level and within the dispensary, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Hold and maintain an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification, participating in the ACPT rota in the main inpatient dispensary and supporting medicines supply via satellite services.
  • Support the continued development and roll-out of the ward-based Medicines Optimisation Technician (MOT) service in line with pharmacy strategy.
  • Assist section leads in the management, development and delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred and cost-effective pharmacy service.
  • Contribute to the future planning and implementation of pharmacy ward-based Medicines Optimisation Technician services.
  • Demonstrate a good level of digital literacy, using pharmacy and Trust digital systems confidently and accurately to support safe and efficient service delivery.
  • Undertake ward-based Medicines Optimisation duties in line with the agreed rota.
  • Promote a culture of learning and development within the Pharmacy MOT and dispensary teams.
  • Support pharmacy clinical and dispensary services to meet departmental and Trust quality standards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
