Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon - Specialist interest in Breast Recon

A Vacancy at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

A full-time post as Locum Consultant in Plastic Surgery & Burns is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with clinical commitments at High Wycombe General Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Amersham Hospital and potentially at the other peripheral hospitals.

There is also scope for collaborative working with our neighbouring Trusts and Plastic Surgery departments, as part of the Integrated Care Partnership.

Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.

Interview date is 8th September 2026

This is a replacement post in a busy general Plastic Surgery & Burns department that has a broad referral base.

The job is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and there is necessity to support a well-established busy breast reconstruction service, develop it further and deliver care that meets the clinical needs.

This post has a particular focus on microvascular breast reconstruction.

The acute aspect of this post has an emphasis on supporting our burns and acute plastic surgery service.

On-call commitments will include 1 week in 10 consultant-led acute cover, but this may be adjusted depending on service needs.

The successful applicant will join the current team of 10 consultants in this regional centre for Plastic Surgery & Burns.

Duties and responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities are

  • Plastic Surgery & Burns service responsibilities including on call (currently 1 week in 10, but subject to change)
  • Outpatient clinics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe General Hospital, Amersham Hospital and possibly other peripheral hospitals
  • Operating (acute and elective)
  • Care of inpatients and outpatients
  • Clinical and other administration as required by agreement
  • Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates (including educational and clinical supervisor role)
