The pathology departments at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on both hospital sites. As a result, this will require cross-site working, with the potential to work at any site as needed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional, motivated and innovative Healthcare Science Support Worker to join the Pathology Laboratory at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust working in Pathology Reception. This post is initially based at the University Hospital of North Tees site, but cross-site working will be required as needed. The department operates a 24 hour, 7 days per week shift system at agenda for change rates. The successful candidate is expected to be fully flexible and work the full range of shifts.

Although not essential, it would be an advantage if you have previous experience working within a laboratory. The department has full UKAS accreditation and IBMS training approval. CPD is actively encouraged.

The Pathology specimen reception Healthcare Science Support Worker role forms part of the Pathology reception team focusing on the area of pre-analytical preparation of patient specimens across all sites. They will also work in close co-operation with other pathology departments according to set protocols.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, teamwork, and an aptitude for problem solving are essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust have come together to form University Hospitals Tees. As a result, post holders may be required to work across sites within both organisations.
