An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our dedicated team on the Macmillan Windmill Unit at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. The post holder will be required to assist outpatients clinics related to the Haematology and Oncology areas and will work alongside the consultants, nurse specialists and advanced nurse practitioners to ensure patient needs are met. They will also be required to assist with clinical procedures.

The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Friday from 08.00 until 20.00, depending on shift pattern necessary for the week, with no weekends or bank holidays. In this position, we may offer part-time hours on a permanent basis. We are looking for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant who has an interest in caring for people with cancer and is able to support the outpatient clinics. You must be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion and care towards both patients and their families. The candidate will need to show good communication skills and must have a positive attitude.

The post holder will be required to assist our Haematology and Oncology outpatient clinics and will work alongside the consultants, nurse specialists and advanced nurse practitioners to ensure the patient needs are met. They will also be required to assist with clinical tasks and procedures such as phlebotomy and bone marrow biopsies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the outpatient clinics by assisting consultants and the wider multi-disciplinary team and provide support to patients during their cancer journey.
  • Record observations, carry out ECGs and phlebotomy.
  • Escalate any concerns to the appropriate teams.
  • Support the wider team with clinical procedures.
  • Support with administrative tasks.
  • Maintain patient safety and dignity at all times.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, following Trust Policy to provide a safe environment for care.
  • Responsible and accountable for your practice working within the parameters of your role.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of your own skills and competencies required to undertake your role.
