Hays are delighted to be working in partnership with a highly respected and purpose-driven organisation to recruit a Head of Financial Accounting. This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished finance leader to join a complex organisation with operations across the UK and internationally, taking ownership of financial accounting, statutory reporting, treasury management and financial governance.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this senior leadership position offers the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, work closely with executive stakeholders and lead a high-performing finance function.

Your new role: As Head of Financial Accounting, you will lead the financial accounting and transaction processing teams, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and compliance of the organisation's financial records across multiple entities. You will have responsibility for the preparation of annual statutory financial statements, regulatory submissions, treasury management activities and technical accounting matters, while providing financial leadership across the wider organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the annual external audit process
  • Overseeing submissions to regulatory bodies including OSCR and Companies House
  • Ensuring compliance with VAT and other tax regulations
  • Maintaining robust financial controls
  • Driving continuous improvement across finance systems and processes

You will also play a key role in supporting senior leadership through the delivery of strategic financial advice and presentations to committees and stakeholders.

What you'll need to succeed: You will be a fully qualified accountant (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant experience leading financial accounting functions within a complex organisation. You will possess strong technical accounting expertise, ideally within an FRS102 environment, along with a proven track record of delivering high-quality statutory reporting, audit management and financial governance.

The successful candidate will bring exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, experience of leading and developing finance teams, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Experience of treasury management, tax compliance and financial systems improvement will be highly advantageous. Knowledge of Charity SORP and fixed asset accounting under FRS102 would be beneficial but is not essential.

What you’ll get in return: In return, you’ll join an organisation where finance plays a critical role in supporting strategic objectives and organisational growth. You'll have the opportunity to work at a senior level, contribute to long-term financial strategy, lead a talented team and influence key business decisions. The organisation offers a hybrid working model, a collaborative culture and the chance to further enhance your leadership career within a highly visible and impactful role.
