Hays Education are proud to be working with an Outstanding specialist creative arts college in East London to recruit an experienced and inspiring Head of Curriculum for Visual Arts.

The college was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2024 across all key areas, including Quality of Education, Leadership and Management, and Personal Development.

This exciting leadership opportunity will involve overseeing a diverse and successful Visual Arts curriculum area, including:

  • Art & Design
  • Film & Content Production
  • Fashion Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Photography

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across the curriculum area, ensuring high-quality teaching, outstanding learner outcomes and a first-class student experience for learners aged 16-19.

The role includes approximately 10 hours of teaching per week, predominantly within Art & Design.

Initially offered on an interim basis to support a smooth handover with the current postholder, the organisation would also consider a temporary-to-permanent arrangement for an exceptional candidate.

Your new role

As Head of Curriculum, you will

  • Lead and manage the Visual Arts curriculum area.
  • Drive outstanding teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Lead curriculum development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor learner progress, attendance, retention and achievement.
  • Oversee self-assessment and quality improvement planning.
  • Manage, support and develop curriculum staff.
  • Lead on student support, pastoral processes and learner success.
  • Build strong relationships with employers, universities and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the wider organisation.
  • Deliver approximately 10 teaching hours per week, primarily in Art & Design.
  • What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate

  • A strong commitment to professional development, training and curriculum innovation.
  • Successful experience managing curriculum teams and leading curriculum development initiatives.
  • Experience of student monitoring, learner journey planning and improving learner outcomes.
  • Extensive teaching, learning and tutorial experience with learners aged 16-19.
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment and developing teams to provide an excellent learner experience.
  • The ability to lead, motivate and inspire both staff and students.
  • Experience of managing student behaviour effectively.
  • Strong leadership, planning, organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience of analysing and using data to drive improvement.
  • A strong understanding of 16-19 programmes, student progress and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of strategies to raise achievement, improve attendance and support learners at risk of underachievement.
