An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to join the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) team as a Band 7 Specialist Pharmacist ePMA. This cross-site role supports the ongoing development, optimisation and governance of electronic prescribing systems across London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Working closely with the Lead Pharmacist ePMA, clinical teams, digital services and system suppliers, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and innovative use of electronic prescribing throughout the patient journey. Responsibilities include supporting system configuration and maintenance, developing the medication catalogue, troubleshooting system issues, delivering training, supporting system upgrades and implementations, and contributing to clinical decision support and digital transformation initiatives.

The role combines specialist digital pharmacy practice with patient-facing clinical pharmacy responsibilities, making it ideal for a pharmacist who is passionate about improving patient safety, medicines optimisation and healthcare technology. The successful candidate will have experience in hospital pharmacy practice, a strong interest in digital healthcare, and excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience of electronic prescribing systems, particularly Cerner ePMA, would be advantageous.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design, configuration, testing and ongoing development of the ePMA system to ensure safe and effective medicines management.
  • Managing and maintaining the electronic medication catalogue and clinical decision support tools, including alerts and reminders.
  • Working closely with pharmacy, clinical, digital and supplier teams to implement system enhancements and resolve operational issues.
  • Delivering training and support to pharmacists, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals using the ePMA system.
  • Monitoring system performance, supporting audits, investigating incidents and promoting high standards of data quality, patient safety and governance.
  • Providing specialist clinical pharmacy services, including medicines optimisation, prescription review, patient counselling and multidisciplinary team working.
  • Supporting ePMA implementations, upgrades, downtime procedures and digital transformation projects across both organisations.
  • Contributing to research, service evaluation, quality improvement initiatives and the development of policies and procedures relating to electronic prescribing.
