Job Summary

To work with a team of radiographic and clerical staff within the Trust. To provide a high standard of expertise and care, and lead areas of the department in the absence of the Modality Superintendent. To provide an efficient diagnostic imaging service that is patient-focused in and out of normal working hours. To foster the HEART Values of the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide a high-quality technical service.
• Maintain a high standard of radiography and seek advice from more senior staff when required.
• Report any faults/incidents to the Lead Radiographer(s)/senior in charge.
• Maintain a high standard of patient care.
• Maintain a high standard of equipment care.
• Work on a rota system, including mobile and theatre work.
• Participate in the CT on-call system after an appropriate training period.
• Place ‘red dot’ on casualty films with identified trauma/pathology.
• Administer cannulas and I.V. contrast media after recognised training.
• Act as the first point of contact for all queries pertaining to Radiology out of hours.

Management of Resources/Equipment

• Participate in all aspects of the quality assurance program within the Imaging department.
• Report all equipment faults/incidents to the Lead Radiographer.
• Communicate replenishing of low levels of stock to the appropriate member of staff within the department.
• Alert senior members of staff to all radiation errors as per their responsibility under IRMER.

Professional Responsibility

• Be aware of clinical governance issues.
• Carry out any other duties which may be delegated by the Service Manager / Deputy Imaging Manager or delegated seniors.
• Observe the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (2000).
• Report any radiation incidents and make appropriate records.
• Ensure that all Hospital Safety Policies, Procedures and fire regulations are observed.

Education

• Maintain own CPD folder.
• Participate in audit both clinical and non-clinical.
• Be responsible for own personal and professional development which is planned and communicated with their line manager.
• Keep abreast of current trends by reading radiography journals and attending courses.
• Help in the induction of new staff to the department.
• Assist in student training, assessment and mentoring after appropriate training.
