Assistant Psychologist | Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Assistant Psychologistto join the Essex Perinatal Mental Health Service (PMHS).
This specialist service supports women, birthing people and infants experiencing mental health difficulties during pregnancy and the first two years following birth.
As part of a psychologically informed multi-disciplinary team, you will work alongside Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Nurses and Peer Support Workers, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based perinatal care across Essex.
The service delivers specialist psychological assessment and intervention to women experiencing a range of perinatal mental health presentations and is committed to improving outcomes for both parent and infant.

The successful candidate will
- Support qualified psychology staff with clinical and non-clinical activities.
- Assist with psychological assessments, outcome measures and care planning.
- Contribute to the delivery and evaluation of psychological interventions and groups.
- Support the collection, analysis and reporting of service data and outcomes.
- Assist with audit, research and service development projects.
- Prepare resources and materials for therapeutic groups and interventions.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues and external agencies.
- Promote psychologically informed and trauma-informed practice across the service.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who
- A minimum of an upper second‑class honours degree (2:1) in Psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society.
- Has worked with people experiencing mental health difficulties or emotional distress.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is compassionate, organised and motivated to contribute to high‑quality care.
- Has an interest in perinatal mental health, infant development and family relationships.
- Can work independently while also being an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
Previous experience within maternity, early years or family services would be advantageous but is not essential.
