This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of over 1,100 employees and over 28,000 volunteers, united by our goal of saving lives through essential first aid services, training and campaigning. As a charity with rich heritage and a long history of serving humanity, we are proud of our past and excited about creating a healthier, safer, more resilient future.
St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, and Young Responders programmes).
Join St John Ambulance as a Logistics Hub Operative and play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our lifesaving services across the country. You’ll help ensure essential stock, clinical equipment, vehicles, and training resources are prepared, maintained, and delivered where they are needed most. Working as part of a blended team of employees and volunteers, you’ll support day-to-day logistics operations, including packing and distributing equipment, checking and cleaning assets, and driving a range of St John vehicles. Please note you will be required to drive in and around London as part of this role. This is a hands-on and rewarding role that requires flexibility, with occasional evening and weekend working, both independently and as part of a wider team.
We are looking for a reliable and organised individual who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and is committed to supporting the important work of St John Ambulance. You will be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade 4 or above, and hold a full UK driving licence at B1 level with no penalty points. A C1 licence would be an advantage.
You will have experience working to strict operational procedures and be confident prioritising tasks to meet changing demands. Previous experience in a logistics, warehousing, or stock management environment, including stock control, stock rotation, and organising storerooms, would be beneficial.
As this is a hands-on role, you must be physically able to carry out manual work safely and effectively. You will also have good interpersonal skills, the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and volunteers, and be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Carry out regular stock checks, stock rotation, and maintain agreed stock levels across ambulance hubs, including medical supplies, consumables, and equipment. Support the movement and distribution of vehicles, equipment, and assets to meet operational demand across multiple locations. Maintain high standards of housekeeping within logistics and storage areas, ensuring safe and organised working environments. Assist with the decontamination of ambulances and treatment centres in line with training, policies, and operational procedures. Complete pre- and post-use equipment checks, report faults promptly, and help ensure clinical kit bags remain fully operational and compliant. Work collaboratively to support wider logistics operations, including asset recovery, storage management, and maintaining accurate logistics systems and records. Drive St John Ambulance vehicles across London to deliver stock, equipment, and supplies to designated locations.
