We’re looking for a digitally skilled, highly organised Works Planner (Refuse) to join our Performance & Information Management Unit (PIMU) — the team that drives intelligence led planning across Glasgow’s waste operations. In this role, you’ll turn data, digital mapping and operational insight into safer, more efficient waste and recycling routes for the city.

Working within PIMU, you’ll help design daily and seasonal collection routes, digitise and maintain our GIS and in cab mapping data, and monitor performance using GPS, telematics and frontline feedback. You’ll be the person who spots inefficiencies early and helps ensure our crews deliver a reliable service for residents using data. If you enjoy solving operational challenges, using digital tools, and improving services, you’ll thrive here.

You’ll bring strong digital capability, especially GIS or telematics platforms along with experience in operational planning, logistics or waste management. You’ll be confident analysing route data, communicating clearly with refuse operations, and staying calm when things get busy. You’ll also understand route constraints, health and safety requirements and the importance of accurate, version controlled data.

This is a role where your work genuinely matters. By joining PIMU, you’ll help to contribute to reductions in missed collections, improve customer satisfaction, support safer operations and strengthen the city’s ability to plan and deliver modern, resilient waste services. If you want to be part of a team investing in smarter data flows, digital mapping and continuous improvement, this is your chance to make a visible impact.

The Council promotes flexible working, we are happy to talk about flexible working options in relation to the role, to support your work-life balance. We welcome applications from everyone and are committed to building a diverse workforce. We particularly encourage applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people and women for senior roles, as these groups are currently underrepresented within our workforce.

As a Disability Confident Employer, Glasgow City Council aims to offer an interview to disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role, in line with the Disability Confident scheme.

Please note that Glasgow City Council is currently completing a Job Evaluation exercise and introducing a new pay and grading structure which may impact on current salaries quoted in job adverts.
