We are seeking a caring, reliable, and resilient Personal Assistant to support a young lady with complex needs in her home. The role is designed to provide both companionship and practical support, while also giving her mother a much-needed break from her full-time caring responsibilities.
The young lady has borderline personality disorder and epilepsy, which includes frequent seizures. She is a warm, kind, thoughtful, and very funny individual who enjoys creative activities such as crafting. However, she can experience significant emotional ups and downs and may at times communicate in a very direct or unfiltered way. The role would suit someone who is patient, understanding, and not easily offended, with a good sense of humour and a calm, grounded approach.
Working environment: The resident is a smoker who smokes inside the property. Applicants should be comfortable working in this environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a sitting service, supervising and supporting the young lady in the home
- Ensure her safety and wellbeing, particularly in relation to her epilepsy and seizures
- Offer companionship and engagement, including supporting her interest in crafts and activities
- Assist with meal preparation and light household tasks
- Support with general cleaning, including maintaining the bathroom and living areas
- Help maintain a calm and structured environment
- Enable her mother to take breaks, attend work and training, and spend time with friends and family
