Core Clinical Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics ST1/2 | Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

Join our Trauma & Orthopaedics team as a Core Clinical Fellow!

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in patient care while working alongside experienced Consultants and senior trainees.

Although not a formal training post, you'll benefit from a strong educational programme designed to develop your clinical, professional, and personal skills in a supportive environment.

  • Provide care for acute patients and take responsibility for the daily management and review of patients admitted to the Trauma & Orthopaedic wards at Frimley Park Hospital under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Participate in the morning trauma meeting and, when on-call, attend the evening handover.
  • Arrive at 07:45 for handover when covering the ward.
  • On theatre days, carry out pre-operative patient reviews with your team and assist with surgery.
  • When on-call, manage referrals from A&E, external sources, and other hospital departments.
  • Prepare and deliver the morbidity and mortality presentation for your allocated consultant during the monthly academic half-day meeting.
  • Take responsibility for your continuing professional development and attend all Trust-mandated essential training.
  • Participate in the morning trauma meeting and, when on-call, attend the evening handover.
  • Provide ward cover, including handover and morning ward rounds of all patients, ensuring action plans are implemented and daily documentation is completed accurately.

Respond to ward calls promptly and maintain an updated inpatient list.

  • On theatre days, carry out pre-operative patient reviews with your team, assist with surgery, complete documentation, and ensure post-operative plans are followed.

Review post-operative patients staying overnight.

  • When on-call, manage referrals from A&E, external sources, and other departments.

Review patients and formulate management plans with senior input, maintaining an updated patient database.

  • Comply at all times with the Trust's dress code and infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and remaining bare below the elbows in patient areas.
  • Take responsibility for your continuing professional development, attending Trust essential training, clinical updates, and Academic Half Days as appropriate.
  • Undergo an annual appraisal as part of maintaining medical registration and meeting requirements for revalidation.
