Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent or step-up Senior Engineer to oversee the delivery of a major coastal sea defence scheme in Folkestone. This is a secure, 1-year contract package focusing on critical maritime protection assets, including coastal repairs, rock revetments, and concrete defence structures. Whether you are an established Sub Agent or a capable Senior Engineer looking to step into management, you will work closely with the Project Manager to run site teams, manage subcontractors, and ensure works are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with environmental and tidal constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Section Management: Take full responsibility for the day-to-day coordination and physical delivery of coastal defence repairs, revetments, and concrete structural elements.
- Temporary Works: Act as the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) on site, managing the temporary works register, verifying designs, and signing off permits for marine and coastal operations.
- Tidal & Environmental Planning: Plan and manage short-term look-ahead programmes (3-week / 4-week), tailoring site logistics and daily shifts around tidal windows and sea conditions.
- Engineering & Quality Assurance: Oversee site engineering control, ensuring Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), material specifications (e.g., armour stone, marine concrete), and quality documentation are rigorously completed.
- Safety & Compliance: Lead site safety, brief Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), conduct toolbox talks, and enforce strict environmental controls for working in sensitive marine habitats.
Requirements
- Civils & Marine Experience: Proven track record as a Sub Agent or Senior Engineer within heavy civil engineering, specifically with experience in sea defences, coastal repairs, rock revetments, or marine structures.
- Mandatory Ticket: Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification is essential.
- Education: HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications: SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme), CSCS Card (Black or Gold), First Aid at Work.
