University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic finance manager to join the friendly and collaborative Strategic Finance team. The role is being advertised on a fixed term contract for 7 months to cover a gap in the team up to year-end due to long-term absence.
The Strategic Finance team oversees a complex capital programme spending between £70m to £100m each year. The programme includes strategic projects (like our new Dementia Research Institute and Neonatal Expansion), innovative transformational projects (like Power Purchase Agreements and Digital Diagnostics) and our Trust-wide replace and refresh programme.
This is a great development opportunity for an experienced NHS finance manager who is looking to develop broader experience by managing capital spend. It would be helpful if you had prior experience of the PFR (external reporting) and capital accounting - but we can support you to develop this if you do not.
You need to be available to start work with us as soon as possible, ideally immediately, and no later than 4 weeks from the interview date. You will need to be available to work most days during our busiest period (January and February 2027).
You will be responsible for our monthly reporting on the capital programme, running well established processes to produce reports and develop actionable insight for decision makers. Your reports must be accurate as well as insightful as they will be used both internally (such as for our Senior Directors Team and Capital Investment Board) and externally (NHS-E). As well as running month end processes, you will also produce and maintain a full year forecast - a key performance indicator for the capital programme.
To be effective in this role, you will need to be very well organised and a good communicator (both verbally and written). You will be skilled at pulling together and analysing complex financial information, drawing out the narrative clearly with good judgement on what the impact will be.
University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, serving a large and diverse population. We provide academically led acute and specialist services, to people from the local area, from throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. Our vision is to deliver top-quality patient care, excellent education, and world-class research.
We are committed to sustainability and have pledged to become a carbon net zero health service, embedding sustainable practice throughout UCLH. We have set an ambitious target of net zero for our direct emissions by 2031 and indirect emissions by 2040.
