The predicted salary is between 51282 - 62678 Β£ per year.
This is a substantive post within the Liaison service. You will work alongside an existing consultant in Older People's Mental Health Directorate who provides sessional support; and a liaison team providing clinical assessment and management of patients with mental health problems at the PRUH Hospital in Farnborough.
The MHLT service for PRUH has combined OA & WA which means a consultant can cover both especially based on the demands. It is envisaged that the post holder will work 5 programmed activities over 2.5 days. Following appointment, there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder.
The overall split of the programmed activities is 3.5 PA to be devoted to direct clinical care and 1.5 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable is indicative only. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and associate medical director or clinical manager three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.
- Undertake clinical assessment of patients with mental health problems.
- Provision of comprehensive psychiatric care to patients through evaluation, diagnosis and use of appropriate treatment plans/strategies, advising and supporting acute hospital staff as needed.
- Availability to act as Section 12(2) approved doctor for the purpose of Mental Health Act Assessments. Where appropriate perform RC duties for patients.
- Making decisions (with other team members and with supervision from the Consultant) regarding referrals to the crisis service, admissions to mental health hospital (gatekeeping, discharges from hospital to the crisis service and treatment of patients in accordance with medical standards and local guidelines).
- Ensuring the involvement of families and carers, wherever possible, with the patient's consent in treatment planning.
- Facilitating discharge, care planning and good communication with families for patients in acute wards as well as enabling better and more effective care of those who are in acute hospital beds.
- To liaise with other agencies, as may be appropriate, especially with regard to continuity of patient care.
- In conjunction with the consultants and team managers to identify and advocate for needed resources including staff as necessary.
GENERAL DUTIES
- To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures.
- To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
- To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
- To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and to submit this promptly to the informatics team.
- To participate in service and business planning activity for the team and as appropriate for the whole mental health service.
- To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
- To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
