We are looking for a Site Technical Manager to join our Riverside site in Middlesbrough, playing a key role in ensuring food safety, compliance, and technical excellence.
The Role
As Site Technical Manager, you will lead the site’s technical function, ensuring full compliance with all internal, legal, and customer standards. Acting as the main point of contact for customers, auditors, and regulatory bodies, you will drive a culture of continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all external site audits, including customer, third-party, and EHO visits
- Manage, coach, and develop the site Technical team
- Act as HACCP Team Leader, ensuring protocols are effectively implemented
- Own and deliver the site’s internal audit programme, ensuring timely closure of non-conformances
- Manage customer portals, alerts, and communications in collaboration with the central Technical team
- Act as the key contact for all customer technical and compliance matters
- Ensure all products are manufactured to specification and under safe, hygienic conditions
- Lead investigations into out-of-specification results (microbiology, ATP, chemistry) and implement corrective actions
- Manage compliance of raw materials and certifications (e.g. Palm Oil, Soya, MSC, Red Tractor, packaging)
- Maintain and update site policies, procedures, and risk assessments (including allergens and dietary requirements)
- Oversee service providers (e.g. laundry) to ensure compliance with site standards
- Support wider site teams and drive continuous improvement across operations
About You
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Technical professional with a background in food manufacturing. You will have:
- HACCP Level 3 or 4 (essential)
- Strong knowledge of retailer standards and food safety legislation
- Proven experience managing audits and leading technical teams
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Good IT and data management capability
- Understanding of supplier and raw material compliance
- A flexible, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
