Support Worker Opportunity – Make a Real Difference in Exeter

We’re seeking caring, reliable and confident Support Workers to join a small, dedicated team supporting a young woman living independently in her own home in Exeter. She has complex clinical needs, including autism, epilepsy, a communication disorder and behaviours that may be perceived as challenging — and she thrives with a consistent team who truly understand her. She enjoys music, social media, shopping trips, women’s football and discovering new places. To help her stay connected with the things she loves, we’re looking for someone local who knows Exeter well, can drive her car, and holds a full UK driving licence.

Communication is central to her wellbeing. She speaks with her family — especially her mum — on a regular basis, so it’s essential that the whole team communicates clearly and consistently. When she’s feeling calm and settled (“green”), she communicates brilliantly, both verbally and through written messages such as texts, emails and notes. As she moves into “amber” or “red”, communication becomes more difficult. She doesn’t respond well to visual aids or symbols, and tone can be easily misinterpreted, so sensitivity and respect are key.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • 1:1 personalised support to promote independence and wellbeing
  • Creating meaningful activities at home and in the community
  • Encouraging social interaction and supporting emotional regulation
  • Supporting communication in the ways that work best for her
  • Helping with routine household tasks to maintain a calm, organised environment
