Working as part of the highly skilled Survival Equipment Team, the Trainee Technician will be responsible for undertaking inspection & scheduled maintenance work, repair and testing of a wide range of personal survival equipment/aircraft safety equipment. The position will be fully supported, and the post-holder given the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification in Survival Equipment. As a Trainee Survival Equipment Technician, you will have a role that's out of the ordinary. Our Trainee Survival Equipment Technician programme will equip you with the essential skills and experience to build a successful career working in the aerospace industry. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch a long and exciting career in the survival equipment sector. You will work a four-day week Monday to Thursday, 38 hours per week and a three-day weekend!

Responsibilities:

  • A specialist hands-on role, the trainee will have the opportunity to work with all aspects of the business servicing & maintaining lifesaving equipment and components such as, parachutes, liferafts, lifejackets and aircrew equipment for both the military and civilian sectors.
  • This will take place at scheduled intervals to approved requirements and industry standards.
  • Day-to-day, over the training programme, you will receive an initial 1-week theoretical course followed by a 3-week practical training course in house, before being introduced to the working environment of the Parachute, Liferaft and Aircrew Equipment bays where you will undergo further On-the-Job Training (OJT) and practical experience on site.
  • Servicing & maintaining survival equipment to company/OEM manuals & guidelines.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance and safety policies on all aspects of the escape system.
  • Disassembly, testing & fault finding of survival equipment/escape systems.
  • Repair & replace of components.
  • Performing operational and functional tests of equipment.

Please note this can be a very physically demanding position. Manual handling will form a large portion of your day-to-day role.

Experience and qualities:

  • No previous experience is necessary however a willingness and interest in practical applications would be advantageous.
  • A background from within engineering would be advantageous.

  • An interest of working in an engineering capacity.
  • Good GCSE standard of education.
