Assistant Psychologist | Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust in Erith

We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated psychology graduates who are keen to gain experience in order to progress towards applied training in clinical psychology. The posts are focused upon supporting data collection processes for Children and Young Peoples IAPT (CYP-IAPT), including clinical outcome monitoring and service–user satisfaction.

The role involves supporting clinical staff in using and interpreting routine outcomes measures, analysing data, producing reports and training staff in outcome measures. Having good IT skills and knowledge of Excel and SPSS would be an advantage. Excellent communication skills are necessary to be able to liaise and support clinical staff and teams, and an interest in working with children and young people is essential. The posts will be supervised by a Clinical Psychologist. Although the primary task in this role is to support data collection there will be opportunities to undertake clinical work under supervision.

To help support the data collection processes for Children and Young Peoples IAPT (CYP-IAPT) within a multi-disciplinary CAMHS service. To assist in clinically related administration, completion of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. There will also be opportunities to undertake clinical work under supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist and support the psychological care of clients within the service, across all sectors of care and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Research and Service Evaluation:
• To undertake data collection, data inputting, analysis and the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
• To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
• To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
• To support clinical staff and managers with regards to the collection and recording of routine data through training and regular attendance at team meetings.
• To provide monthly reports of multi-disciplinary clinical activity as requested by the supervising clinical psychologist and team manager.
• IT Responsibilities (clinical):
• To create graphs or charts to collage or summarise data on individual interventions or treatment programmes.
• To assist in producing visual material or user-friendly information for interventions with clients.
• Clinical:
• To undertake protocol based psychological assessment of client applying psychological theory, including neuro-psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
• To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problem, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
• To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups or clinical projects.
• To work with other staff to assess or support service users in residential and day service settings and contribute to multi-disciplinary discussions or care guidelines as agreed with the clinical psychologist providing supervision.
• To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
• To understand and work within the CYP IAPT framework.
• Teaching, Training and Supervision:
• In common with all clinical psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
• To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS over and above that provided within the principal service area where the post holder is employed.
• To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
• To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care.
• Management, Recruitment and Service Development:
• To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.
• To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.

Liaises with: Other assistant psychologists, psychology members of the team, including the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and other disciplines and agencies responsible for clients’ care.
