The Finance Manager – Capital will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day management and delivery of the Capital Accounting function across the GESH Hospital Group, with a particular focus on the Epsom site. The post holder will work closely with the Group Senior Finance Manager – Capital to ensure the accurate recording, monitoring and reporting of capital expenditure, fixed assets, leases and assets under construction, in line with IFRS, NHS financial guidance and GESH Standing Financial Instructions.
The role will provide financial analysis, advice and support to project managers, divisional leads and budget holders to support delivery of the capital programme, ensuring robust financial governance, control and value for money. The post holder will also support monthly capital monitoring, statutory accounts, external financial returns, audit schedules, fixed asset reporting and IFRS 16 lease accounting.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining and reconciling the fixed asset register, supporting capital forecasting and reporting, preparing working papers and balance sheet reconciliations, and contributing to continuous improvement of systems, processes and reporting within the Capital Accounting function. The role also includes line management and development of Capital Accountants and other team members, providing technical guidance, supervision and support to ensure high-quality outputs are delivered within agreed deadlines.
- Support the Senior Finance Manager – Capital in the effective delivery of GESH’s capital accounting and reporting function, ensuring compliance with IFRS, NHS guidance, and GESH’s Standing Financial Instructions (SFIs).
- Manage the day-to-day financial administration of the capital programme, including monitoring, forecasting, and reporting of capital expenditure and financing.
- Prepare monthly capital monitoring reports, highlighting variances and risks, and provide clear explanations and recommendations to senior finance colleagues, divisional leads, and project managers.
- Coordinate the preparation of the annual capital programme and assist in the evaluation of capital bids, ensuring business cases are supported by accurate financial information and realistic assumptions.
- Work collaboratively with Estates, IT, Procurement, and operational teams to ensure the accurate accounting of capital projects, assets under construction (AUC), and project completions.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, ensuring timely recognition of additions, disposals, impairments, revaluations, and depreciation in line with IFRS and NHS requirements.
- Support the accurate application of IFRS 16 lease accounting, including maintaining asset and liability schedules, posting journals, and preparing reconciliations.
