  • To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions.
  • To provide leadership for junior staff, as delegated by Team lead Occupational Therapist
  • To supervise Occupational therapy students on practice placements.
  • To assist the Band 7 Team Leader for ensuring the provision of an exceptional standard of Occupational Therapy service, in conjunction with the multi-professional team, to meet the needs of the patients in your designated work area.
  • To assist and take responsibility in the absence of the Band 7 OT Team Leader for the effective and efficient day to day running of Occupational Therapy Service

The Band 6 OT will carry out assessment (standardised or locally agreed) and plan and implement treatment programmes as appropriate for the patient and clinical area.

They will also be responsible for the supervision of junior and/or therapy support staff.

This post for Band 6 Occupational Therapist Inpatient rehabilitation has opportunities to work across Inpatient services on the Chase Farm hospital & St Michael’s sites with potential to rotate into community services in future.

  • The Band 6 Occupational Therapist will participate in a seven day therapy service
  • To assess the occupational needs of a defined patient group and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes.
  • To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients with multiple needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
  • To participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment provision.
  • To select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the patient in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.
  • To be able to communicate effectively with users and carers, team members, OT colleagues and other agencies, including people who may have sensory disabilities e. g. visual and sensory impairments, speech and comprehension difficulties.
  • To plan and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with the patient, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • To provide support and education to patients and carers regarding all aspects of occupational therapy e. g. equipment fitting, rehab programmes.
  • To work with patients to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan, using standardised and local OT assessment tools.
  • To contribute to taking a lead role in the overview of the discharge planning of every patient, recommending services and appropriate follow up at home.

This role is an ideal opportunity for experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapists exploring career progression or existing Band 6 Occupational Therapists looking for a new career opportunity within the supportive MDT setting within Inpatient rehabilitation.

You will be working within an established therapy team as part of the wider MDT, offering assessment and rehabilitation interventions for a wide range of adult inpatients admitted for a short stay in Capetown & Canterbury wards, Chase Farm hospital with opportunity to work closely with another inpatient rehabilitation site ( Magnolia unit at St Michael's primary care centre) .

There are regular CPD opportunities through our in service training programme , as well as appraisal & supervision to support your learning and development.

The role is well supported by the Band 7 therapy Team leads and overseen by the Integrated Therapies lead for the P2 wards - with opportunity to support service improvement and take part in a 7 day therapy service rota with future rotations.
