We are seeking a dedicated HGV Class 1 Shunter Driver to join our logistics team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for efficiently maneuvering heavy goods vehicles within the yard and loading areas, ensuring the smooth and safe movement of trailers and trucks. Your expertise will help maintain operational flow, support timely deliveries, and uphold safety standards across all activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, a keen eye for safety, and experience in commercial driving environments.
Responsibilities
- Safely shunt and position heavy goods vehicles within designated yard areas to facilitate loading and unloading operations.
- Conduct pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
- Assist with the coupling and uncoupling of trailers, ensuring secure connections before transit.
- Follow all company policies, health and safety procedures, and traffic regulations during vehicle movements.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, logistics coordinators, and other drivers to coordinate vehicle movements efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, vehicle inspections, and any incidents or anomalies.
- Support the loading and unloading process when required, ensuring proper handling of cargo such as flatbed loads.
- Keep the yard organized by adhering to designated parking protocols for trailers and trucks.
Skills
- Proven experience as a commercial driver with a focus on shunting, must have experience with Terbeg or other popular manufacture tug machines.
- Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) license with no more than 6 points.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations related to commercial driving.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively within a team environment.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle inspections and identify maintenance issues promptly.
- Delivery driver experience is advantageous for understanding logistics flow and cargo handling.
