Controls Engineer in Dunfermline

Dunfermline Full-Time No working from home possible

Controls Engineer to join the engineering team of an established international engineering business based in Dunfermline.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a varied role combining

controls, electrical engineering, fault-finding, testing and technical documentation.

Our client is open-minded about level and background. You could already be working as a Controls or Automation Engineer, or you may come from a broader electrical engineering or maintenance background and have gained some exposure to PLCs and control systems.

You do

not need to be an expert PLC programmer, and experience with Siemens is

not essential. Training can be provided for an engineer with the right underlying electrical and controls knowledge.

The Role

Working as part of a small controls team within a wider engineering department, you will be involved across a range of electrical and control engineering activities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with PLC-based control systems, including understanding, maintaining and modifying existing programs
  • Electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting
  • Reading and working from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Supporting the development and modification of electrical and control system designs
  • Producing and updating technical drawings and engineering documentation
  • Supporting control panel and equipment testing
  • Carrying out practical fault-finding and testing within the workshop and engineering environment
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Assisting with commissioning and resolving technical issues
  • Working with other engineers and departments to deliver projects to customer requirements
  • Following structured engineering, quality and documentation processes

There may also be opportunities to support commissioning and fault-finding, although this is not an essential requirement of the role.

What We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with candidates from a range of backgrounds, including

Controls Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, EC&I/C&I or Electrical Maintenance.

Ideally, you will have a combination of:

  • Experience or exposure to PLC-controlled equipment or systems
  • Some PLC programming, fault-finding or program modification experience
  • Experience with PLC platforms
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Experience working with electrical control panels or industrial machinery
  • Exposure to testing, commissioning or FAT
  • Some experience with CAD or electrical technical drawings would be useful
  • Good written communication and attention to detail
  • A practical approach and willingness to get involved with equipment and testing

Who Could This Suit?

This opportunity could suit an experienced Controls Engineer looking for a varied engineering position, but we are equally interested in engineers earlier in their career.

Applications are encouraged from

strong graduates or developing engineers who have relevant electrical, controls, automation or PLC exposure and are looking for an opportunity to develop their skills.

Less experienced engineers should be comfortable working predominantly on site during their initial development period. Hybrid working may become available once established within the team.

You will have Full right to work in the UK as we cannot offer sponsorship or accept applications from candidates with short term Visa's with this role.
