Gi Group are looking for class 2 drivers / HGV 2 drivers to be supplied to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for the Winter Services Gritting Season to start in October and end in April. This is a part time, 6 month contract role with vacancies at the Applicants must be able to reach this location within approximately 30 minutes and are urged to not apply if your commute time is greater than this.

We offer successful candidates an attractive remuneration package, and a 2 day fully paid training course is delivered to all new recruits. This role will involve:

  • Driving gritting vehicles (LGV Cat C / Class 2) to spread salt & brine on the road network of the region
  • Winter duties include loading the vehicle with road salt using a loading shovel, driving and cleaning the vehicle
  • Standby rota (paid) alternating with 2 weeks on and one week rest

Weekday Standby times:

  • Shift 1 - 16:00 to 00:00
  • Shift 2 - 00:00 to 08:00
  • Shift 3 - on rest

Weekend standby times:

  • Shift 1 - 12:00 to 00:00
  • Shift 2 - 00:00 to 12:00
  • Shift 3 - on rest

Standby payments are £17.46 per day Monday to Friday and £26.12 per day Saturday and Sunday = £139.54. If you are 'called out' to grit the road, the payment for this is £101.60 (5 hour call out) or £121.92 (6 hour call out) on top of the daily standby payments, time worked over the standard call out durations will be at paid at the hourly rate of £20.32.

Drivers will need:

  • LGV Cat C (HGV Class 2) licence
  • Digital Tachograph Card
  • No more than 6 points on their licence (for insurance purposes)
  • No DD/DR endorsements (for insurance purposes)
  • New drivers welcome
