Salary

up to £42,000 + additional overtime, call out and standby payments

The role

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll play a key part in ensuring our clients assets are maintained, repaired and operating safely and efficiently.

You will be maintaining HGV, mobile and harbour cranes, forklift trucks, telehandlers, vehicles and other mobile plant and equipment.

Key responsibilities will be

  • Carry out maintenance, repair and improvement work across a broad range of assets
  • Diagnose faults on complex equipment and implement effective solutions
  • Deliver both planned preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Complete inspection reports and maintenance documentation (manual or electronic)
  • Conduct statutory inspections and report findings via the Port’s ERP system
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify recurring faults and recommend improvements
  • Ensure work is completed in line with health & safety standards and risk assessments
  • Act as Lead/Coordinator on smaller projects when required
  • Liaise with contractors, stakeholders and other departments
  • Support and mentor colleagues and Apprentices
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Experience and skills required

  • Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline, ideally in a transport or plant environment (minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years’ post‑qualification experience
  • Experience with HGV, heavy plant and mobile hydraulic systems
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience reviewing and creating RAMS
  • Good IT literacy
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Welding/fabrication experience (desirable)
  • Working in varied conditions including noise, weather exposure and heavy‑duty environments
  • Required to work additional hours, including overtime and emergency callouts
  • Participate in a standby rota (approx. 1 week in every 8 weeks)
