Key responsibilities as the Business Development Manager would be

  • Maintain engagement with customers to identify service improvements.
  • Identify and qualify new leads through networking and market insights.
  • Attend customer meetings 1-2 times per week.
  • Support with the preparation of proposals, tenders and customer presentations.
  • Support customer onboarding and align operational requirements.
  • Attend 2-3 industry and trade events per year, ensuring leads are captured and followed up.
  • Gather operational and financial data to support business cases and forecasting.
  • Contribute to sales pipeline updates and support negotiations.
  • Support rate and tariff updates.
  • Maintain accurate KPI tracking for customer accounts within the CRM.
  • Gather and share market intelligence on competitors and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant quality, safety, security and sustainability standards.
  • Support commercial project delivery by coordinating tasks and monitoring progress.
  • Support strategic initiatives led by the Head of Business Development.

Experience and skills required

  • Experience of account management or business development across Logistics, Supply Chain or Port operations.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Understanding of basic financial principles.
  • Passion for growth, innovation and developing new solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data. Skilled in negotiation and constructive conflict management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and attention to detail.
  • Role model for integrity, respect and positive team culture.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Knowledge of quality, security or food safety standards
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks
