We are seeking 2 enthusiastic dosimetrists to join the Bristol Radiotherapy Physics Unit for a year to cover for maternity leave. In Bristol we have 5 Elekta Agility-Head linacs with onboard imaging, Varian HDR brachytherapy (Prostate, Gynae, Oesophagus, Skin), Gammaknife, Molecular RT, 2 Philips Wide Bore CT’s, Raystation TPS, Clarity Ultrasound and surface guided RT, as well as a 3D printer.

The successful candidates will aid the team of Dosimetrists and Clinical Scientists in ensuring we can provide safe and effective radiotherapy treatments to our patients. The roles will focus on routine quality control (QC) checks on the department's linear accelerators, management of radiotherapy equipment, and service development projects. The posts would be ideal for recent graduates of the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or those with a physics or related physical science degree who wish to develop a career in medical physics. They would provide good experience ahead of a future application to the Scientist Training Programme (STP). The post holder will primarily be based within the dosimetry team.

Duties will include:

  • Completing QC as part of our routine QA programme as well as after breakdowns/repairs.
  • Performing patient specific treatment plan QC.
  • Management of dosimetry equipment.

In addition to these tasks, there will be scope for participating in service development project work that will provide wider exposure and knowledge of radiotherapy physics activities.
