We are seeking an enthusiastic and industry-focused Lecturer in Machinery and Land-Based Engineering to join our thriving Agriculture department at Coastland College. This exciting role offers the opportunity to teach and assess across the Agriculture curriculum while playing a key part in the continued development of our agricultural provision. You will inspire and support learners to develop the practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional behaviours required for successful careers within the agricultural and land-based industries.

The Agriculture department at our Kingston Maurward campus benefits from an outstanding learning environment, including a 280-hectare commercially operated mixed farm comprising dairy and sheep enterprises. Staff and learners have access to a wide range of modern agricultural machinery and equipment used across arable, grazing, and parkland settings. This provides endless opportunities to bring learning to life by linking theory directly to practical application, something our teaching team actively champions and encourages.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching that develops learners' confidence and competence in machinery operation, maintenance, engineering principles, and fault-finding. A strong emphasis on health and safety, safe systems of work, and industry-standard practice will underpin all teaching, ensuring learners are fully prepared for both workshop and farm environments. Through hands‑on, practical delivery, you will help learners understand the vital role engineering plays in supporting efficient, productive, and sustainable farm businesses.

With a growing student population, strong links with local farming communities, and exciting developments in course delivery, our Agriculture department is committed to shaping the next generation of farmers, engineers, and land-based professionals across the South West.

Teaching qualifications and a degree-level qualification in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline are desirable. Equally important is a passion for developing others and sharing industry expertise in an engaging and practical way.

If you are passionate about agriculture, engineering, and inspiring future industry professionals, we would love to hear from you.

An additional skills allowance is included in the advertised salary, which may be offered on top of the basic salary (£31,363 per annum) for the successful candidate, depending on their experience and expertise.

What we offer:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement of 48 holiday days, plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time roles)

  • Access to Optima Health - our FREE confidential emotional support and practical advice scheme
  • Dedicated CPD learning days to support learning and development
