This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established Neurology team at University Hospitals Dorset. With close links to Southampton University Hospital, there is an opportunity to work closely with the tertiary hospital team.

The Neurology Service at UHD covers the whole county and there is an expectation of this job to participate in clinics/ward cover at 2 of the 3 sites (Poole, Bournemouth and Dorchester). This is a permanent post working 8 PA's per week, with an opportunity for specialists in Epilepsy or Multiple Sclerosis. Both these specialities are well supported by a MDT of practitioners and you would work closely as a team.

The post holder would be expected to play a full role in the delivery of the Neurology service across Dorset. This includes support to the acute wards for Neurology patients as well as carrying an outpatient case load. UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview. If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Any work undertaken outside standard hours/PA's will attract remuneration in line with the respective NHS Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Undertake the investigation and treatment of neurological outpatient referrals.
  • Advise (through ward referrals) on neurological cases admitted under general physicians.
  • Contribute to a shared commitment to ward rounds during the week.
  • Support Specialist Practitioners in providing neurological nurse services to patients.
  • Develop specialist interest to complement those currently provided.
  • Maintain and develop links with University Southampton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
