- About the employer
The employer is a young man living in his own home in Great Cransley.
He is an autistic person and is seeking a team of Personal Assistants to support him in his continued independent life.
Assisting him with everyday living tasks as well as helping him to enjoy his pastimes, interests and hobbies out in the wider community.
Shifts are both weekday and weekend shifts.

Mandatory rest breaks between shifts must be adhered to.

Main Duties
- 24 hour shift worked from 10am to 10am
- To prompt and encourage the employer to carry out general household tasks.
- To assist the employer to prepare healthy meals, encouraging portion control and variety. Cleaning and tidying the kitchen afterwards, as necessary.
- Regularly prompting the employer to complete his daily personal hygiene routines. He is independent in completing these tasks but will need encouragement and reminders to do so.
- To enable the employer to access the community safely; supervising and ensuring his safety at all times. The Employer needs one to one care and cannot be left.
- Accompanying on local outings, ranging from long walks in the village and surrounding area to regular gym sessions.
- To occasionally take the Employer on outings further afield, i. e. to the beach or other places of interest.
- You must have a full clean UK driving licence as you will need to drive the Employer’s Motability Vehicle (insurance restrictions apply)
- Any other task which the employer may reasonably ask you to do which falls within the scope of the job as a Personal Assistant.

The successful applicant will be friendly, able to give empathetic support, while respecting the employer’s independence but also able to take instruction.
Must be flexible, trustworthy and active with a good sense of humour.
On very are occasions, the family’s friendly Labrador comes to stay with the Employer, so you must be comfortable around animals.
No real pet care is required, however you may need to prompt or remind the employer to carry out various pet related tasks.
A good knowledge of Autism is preferred, and also experience in dealing with and/or preventing unrecognised inappropriate behaviours is advantageous.
The employer responds best to gentle encouragement and prompting, rather than instructions and demands.
You must be able to relate to him in a kind but firm way so he is not caused undue distress or anxiety as that would cause him to disengage/shut down.
Please note you will be directly employed by the person (or their representative) that you will be assisting. The Council is not the employer.
