Deputy Ward Manager - Ward 2 | South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 or band 6 nurse who is looking for further development opportunity into a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager role on Ward 2. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward thinking confident aspiring nurse leader. Working within the acute care service line requires a high degree of personal resilience, self-discipline and the successful candidate will need to be highly motivated and enthusiastic, be mindful of personal and professional boundaries and able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting.

The priorities will be with supporting the ward manager in leading on the clinical, operational management and monitoring of systems within the service, and implementation and embedding of change to enhance quality and safety on the ward. You will also be expected to contribute to the strategic development of the service.

The successful candidate is expected to work with the ward team and the service line in providing high quality nursing care and leadership. You will be a highly skilled and well-motivated individual with considerable experience of working in a dynamic acute mental health service.

The Deputy Ward Manager is expected to work closely with the Ward Manager who is ultimately responsible for providing a safe environment within which all staff can deliver care and support to patients and their significant others. You must ensure effective deployment of resources within agreed budgets. You will support the ward manager to manage complaints, compliments and support the team with being always ready for CQC. You will be present, accessible, and supportive, train junior staff and support their development.

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.

Working autonomously within the parameters of the role leading and supporting junior staff and wider care team to implement the delivery of quality nursing care, contributing to the physical, psychological, social, recreational and spiritual care in a recovery-focused way through therapeutic engagement and activities, and taking steps to address any issues that arise.

Leading on and undertaking activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care are met - nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support: Co-ordinating and evaluating collaborative patient centred care; getting feedback and improving plans with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). Providing accurate information about care in an accessible format to patients and their relatives / carers. Liaising and working positively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and partner organisations. Administering, and monitoring the side-effects of, medication; monitoring service user compliance. Safety; safe custody of medicines, sharps, clinical equipment, report all incidents following trust policy. Leading and supporting/teaching junior staff on risk assessment and risk management that involves making decisions based on knowledge of the research evidence, knowledge of the individual service user and their social context, knowledge of the service user’s own experience and clinical judgment.
