An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hard working and committed individual with proven leadership and management experience to join our team. This role offers an opportunity to be responsible for large specialities at St George's; Renal Surgery & Transplantation, Haematology, Oncology & Palliative Care.

The Deputy General Manager is a key position within the Directorate's management & leadership structure. Reporting to the General Manager, the Deputy General Manager will be responsible for operational and performance management for the Directorate. Working closely with a team of Service Managers and Care Group Leads, this role will require effective multi-tasking, proactive stakeholder engagement and developing strategic approaches to complex issues.

The post holder will co-ordinate the operational delivery of all responsible services and ensure the safe and effective use of all resources. Specifically, to take a lead in achieving key performance targets in line with local and national agreements across elective and cancer access. Also promoting productivity & efficiency, the delivery of activity plans and development & implementation of recovery plans where required. Additionally, the post-holder will support financial management within services and ensure delivery of cost-improvement schemes. The post holder will also ensure proactive staff-management across the directorate, ranging from appraisal compliance to sickness reporting & management.

The successful post-holder will be expected to deputise for the General Manager where required.

The main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s Hospital also hosts the St George’s, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region.

As well as acute hospital services, St Georges Hospital provides a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010. St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across south west London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people. The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases.
