CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director - Part Time

In this senior clinical position, you will provide clinical and medical leadership across the hospital.
You will also be a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist who will have clinical responsibilities for service users at Potters Bar Clinic working 30 hours/week.
You will be key in advising on psychiatric and medical issues within the hospital.
As lead for the medical directorate, you will operationally manage, within agreed standards, targets, timetables, and constraints in accordance with operational and strategic objectives.
Your responsibilities as a Medical Director will include
- Responsibility for the administration of the Mental Health Act, Clinical Policy, Clinical Standards and associated administrative tasks in respect of patients
- Exercise professional leadership and institute, manage and evaluate via the most appropriate means that can include audit or QI, a medical service, ensuring that clinical policy, practice and its application is research based and of a good standard
- Work with the General Practitioner to ensure the provision of primary care medical services appropriate to patients in services.
- As a member of the Senior Management team, provide leadership, support and guidance where necessary to all staff, always ensuring best practice.
- Regularly meet virtually or face to face with the consultants and other medical directors in the region to share best practice, concerns and discuss strategic objectives and future medical needs and issues.
- Chair monthly medical meetings.
- To be part of clinical governance and provide clinical input.
- To feed into corporate clinical governance through regional leads.
- Manage medical practice as per GMC good practice guidance and insure adherence with Elysium Healthcare appraisal guidance.
As a CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be required to
- Review referrals and determine appropriateness for admission
- Conduct Admission assessment and ensure effective management plans
- To participate in the assessment and management of children and young people referred to the Service
- To conduct risk assessment and review regularly
- To assess physical health
- To provide leadership, supervision, reflection, and risk management to the key workers on the team
- To abide by, and contribute to, the governance arrangements and processes of the service.
This includes providing a culturally competent practice, appropriate record keeping, and discharging duties under the safeguarding children agenda.
- To supervise non-training grade doctors and psychiatric trainees allocated to the teams.
- To enact cross cover arrangements for annual, study and professional leave, with the other child and adolescent psychiatrists in the department.
- Participation in the CYPMHS Consultant on-call duty rota.
- To participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- An interest in research and a willingness to supervise trainees will be encouraged.
- To establish effective working relationships with GPs, CYPMHS community teams, specialists and commissioners.
- To uphold the principles of Clinical Governance and adhere to the organisation’s clinical governance requirements.
- To take part in an Annual Appraisal Programme, with the development of Personal Development Plans, focused on Continuing Professional Development.
- To adhere to all the organisations policies and procedures.
- On-Call Duties
As a Consultant Psychiatrist you will be part in the on call rota, offering out of hours consultant cover.
To be successful as an applicant you’ll need
- Registered on the GMC Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a licence to practise.
- Experience of CYPMHS Eating Disorders
- Excellent spoken and written communication
- Effective analytical, interpersonal and negotiating
- Innovative and imaginative with the ability to initiate corporate decisions
- Proven experience of working in a leadership role
- Proven experience of working as a Senior consultant
- Substantial experience of change management, relevant legislation, contemporary issues in mental health, recruitment and retention issues for doctors, knowledge of, and experience in purchaser/provider contractual issues
- Previous experience in a management role
