We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated nurse to join our Cancer Services team in an exciting and innovative dual-role position. This unique post combines the responsibilities of an Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), where you will support cancer patients from early referral and conduct clinical triage for patients with suspected cancer. 50% of the role will have a specialist focus on supporting the nutritional and dietetic needs of patients across all cancer pathways.

This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about improving the experience, wellbeing and outcomes of people living with and beyond cancer. Applications are welcomed from nurses who have substantial experience supporting patients with complex nutritional needs, including those working in gastroenterology, surgical, medical or specialist ward settings where nutritional care forms a significant part of the role.

For the right candidate, consideration will be given to appointment at Band 6 as a developmental post, with progression to Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist subject to achieving the required competencies within 12 months, aligned to the ACCEND framework.

About the Role

As the Upper GI Cancer CNS, you will provide expert clinical and supportive care to patients diagnosed with Upper GI cancers, acting as a key worker throughout their cancer journey. In addition, you will become the 'go-to' professional within the Cancer Service for nutrition and dietetic support, working closely with dietitians, clinical teams and allied health professionals to ensure patients receive timely advice and interventions to optimise their nutritional status before, during and after cancer treatment. The role will also have a strong focus on personalised care, prehabilitation and rehabilitation, supporting patients to improve their physical wellbeing, manage treatment-related side effects and maximise their quality of life throughout their cancer pathway.

About You

We are ideally looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist with knowledge and experience in Upper GI cancer care and/or nutritional support. Experience in cancer nutrition, dietetics-related services, gastroenterology, upper GI surgery or cancer care would be highly advantageous. However, we recognise that the right candidate may not yet have all the specialist competencies required for a CNS role. Therefore, we are willing to support the development of an ambitious and capable nurse who demonstrates the potential to progress into this specialist position.
